Two weekends ago I went to see The Adjustment Bureau, starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. To be honest, I found it rather too fantastical. Not the sci-fi aspect mind you, the love story! I am not a big fan of the stereotypical love story, as they usually seem very far removed from reality to [...]

Joss Whedon (the guy behind Dr Horrible and Firefly, and recently Dollhouse) on Humanists as “True Believers”: This clip is relevant to the recent discussion as he talks about “faith” and points out that it isn’t the enemy. In fact, “faith” is important, faith is something we have to embrace he says in a wonderful [...]

I can’t remember when exactly I watched the movie Wanted, but I do remember the two blog posts it inspired me to write. So here’s the first… Why is “you have to believe!” so pervasive in our culture? The “you have to believe!” meme appears to be hiding around every corner. Including Wanted, wherein the [...]

In the wake of The Dark Knight, I thought I’d share a few posts I thought worthwhile. The posts do contain some spoilers, but if you still haven’t seen the movie, um, that’s your loss. John Wilkins from Evolving Thought writes in The Dark Knight about dualities, order and chaos and Zoroastrian metaphysics (with a [...]

It has been a long time since I went to watch a movie. What a choice we made. 30 Days of Night. Horror. I’m not sure I’ve ever watched a horror movie on the big screen. It was horrifying.

I am now the proud owner of two Carl Sagan books, The Demon Haunted World (Amazon, Kalahari) and Billions and Billions (Amazon, Kalahari), as well as Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, a set of seven DVDs (Amazon). As my time is limited, I will probably not be reading or watching any of it, until October. Still, it [...]

I saw “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” yesterday, on the big screen. Unfortunately it wasn’t surprisingly good. (“Sequels are typically bad” still applies). On Metacritic, Pirates I, II and III scored 64/8.8, 53/6.6 and 50/5.2 successively. I can understand that. (That’s critics/users, and >60 for critics, is a “favourable” score.) I am unfortunately [...]

Conversations with friends force me to think more critically about Spiderman 3. Yes, it was sentimental fluff; yes, if you had big expectations and a good memory of 1 and 2, you might be severely disappointed. In my case, I didn’t really have any expectations, I wasn’t particularly excited about it, and my memory of [...]

I have to blog, my mind is milling with thoughts I need to flush out. Writing just one post, might also get the other posts I have in mind, out of my mind for the time being. If not, expect a seriousish post following soon. On Friday I blogged about a review of Spiderman that [...]

Spins a web, any size, catches thieves, just like flies, look out! Here comes the Spiderman! Considering this blog will not host serious and “high-quality” (supposedly) content (content that requires careful thinking and careful writing, hence lots of time to write) until such time as I am no longer married to my thesis, there won’t [...]
