Missing Comments: Spam Filter False Positives

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments

A quick note: Akismet, the WordPress spam filter, seems to have some trouble with false positives lately. I.e. a number of valid comments were flagged as spam. I try to eventually de-spam these comments in order to train the filter. This causes some duplicates when people have written a new comment to replace the one [...]

A “New” Focus

March 2nd, 2008 · 10 Comments

Much of the high rate of posts on this blog come from a place of wondering what direction to take. I probably contradicted myself often. This weekend, as I was doing a couple of thesis corrections before final publication (highly depressing to make minor corrections to something that seems majorly weak), and as I was [...]

Please Comment On This Post!

February 5th, 2008 · 10 Comments

Great, another night of cannot-sleep. I’ve decided to publish a number of the posts I have drafts for, without applying too much perfectionism. Here’s the first. For the record, for Religion posts, I’m leaning all the more in the direction of “disable comments”, or filtering comments heavily, allowing only those that I deem valuable. I’m [...]

Tick-tock, Tick-tock

January 23rd, 2008 · 20 Comments

Today is just another day. Just another revolution of the earth about its axis (or another trip of our sun around the earth). Just another meaningless moment in existence, as the earth orbits the sun and the seasons change, as the sun travels with many other stars around our galaxy, as the galaxy meanders purposelessly [...]

Unpacking My Baggage

December 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment

This past year has been very liberating for me. In my search, I finally managed to drop all the baggage weighing me down by the side of the road. While I could say “good riddance”, there is always the possibility of someone else picking up that same baggage. So I hope to retrace my steps, [...]

Coming Up This Week: A Return to Creationism!

December 11th, 2007 · No Comments

For those that have been waiting patiently for me to return to the Creationism Seminar thread: I will do so this week. I intend to do daily postings, but I don’t expect everyone to read daily. As such, I like the idea of interleaving a number of threads. The aim is thus to have a [...]

Lousirr Reloaded

December 10th, 2007 · No Comments

On the weekend of 1 and 2 December, I gave lousirr control of my blog. lousirr used that opportunity to write about two dozen “poems” and some other things, sharing some rather interesting and/or bizarre ideas. They were scheduled for publishing every four hours, for four days. Madness. And here I thought he/she would be [...]

A Change of Plan, and Blog Hiatus

November 16th, 2007 · 2 Comments

I’ve had a slight change of heart. I had some interesting and fun plans for the rest of the year, playing some interesting games, and demonstrating certain things personally. Rather melodramatic. With encouragement from other sources (much appreciated, thanks!), I’ve decided to drop my attention-whoring ways, change tack, and approach the matter from a slightly [...]

Information Overload

November 14th, 2007 · 2 Comments

I’m planning a number of features for Mengelmoes that will hopefully help deal with information overload. Many of these features will be social in nature. We’ll have to see how well they work.
