It’s been an interesting journey, the past several years. This blog is now more than 9 years old, dating back to a time when I was unpacking, deconstructing, the worldview I had grown up with, in search of a healthier predisposition towards our existence on this planet. The story didn’t stop, although regular posting did. I find my spirituality developing in new directions, but built on the older foundations that I’ve discovered during my search.
The source and inspiration for the ongoing journey comes through a great many voices, from diverse traditions. It seems each voice, no matter how much I initially believe it to diverge from my own, has valuable insights to add, or manages to pluck the strings of deep truths that resonate with what I realize I already learned in my conservative fundamentalist-leaning youth.
Last month I provided 10 days’ lodging to a person that turned out to be a Mormon. One Sunday evening I found myself shoving my evening plans aside to have a good long discussion with him. Once again, there are so many ways in which his worldview is at odds with mine, things he believes that are totally incredible to me. But dig a little deeper, and really listening beyond that, I find truths that remind me and teach me what life is about, and teachings and understandings that I can integrate into my worldview, or alternatively remind me of the value already buried in my worldview, as well as showing me better how we can relate to one another in this diverse and marvellous thing known as human culture.
