You still need an ultimate source of ATP somewhere, though...so the article is technically correct in that virusses dont need ATP synthase, but they still need ATP...which is a marvellous example of evolution in its own right. You don't need ATP synthase? Then there will be no selection pressure to maintain the genes necessary for creating the complex...and you will lose them. Or do they need a step-by-step explanation?
